  • Original end papers, marbled. Original text block edge, marbled. 
  • The Tower of London a historical romance novel written by William Harrison Ainsworth. Ainsworth celebrated the conclusion of The Tower of London with a large dinner party to celebrate the works. The pages are very clean with only some toning. Very slight foxing visible in places. Foxing is heaviest to only the first few pages.. Very heavy foxing to the pictoral/leaf directly opposite of the title page. The title page largely clean, though bearing some spots and creasing. The title page has a tear of approx 19cm. The front and paper joint is cracked, some repair also visible to the adjoining page. Period leather/ cloth binding with quilt lettering and description. The quilt lettering is somewhat faded. There is some rubbing to the extremities, particularly the top right corners. Also some wear to head and spine edge. Despite wear, a tightly sound, firm copy and square. This is a first edition with original illustrations by George Cruikshank.
