FAWCETT, Ray

  • Standing Nude; original study drawing in pencil on paper, 1961.

Description

  • Some handing marks and creasing, with small chip to paper, otherwise bright and clean and very good throughout.
  • Framed and glazed; ultra modern composite frame with burnished finishing. UV resistant art glass. Minor wear to frame’s extremities.
  • Ray Fawcett (1934-1994) was accomplished in the era of British modernism and contemporary art. As such he developed an abstract style which shared context with contemporaries such as Asger Jorn, Corneille and Ben Nicholson. No part of his picture is more important than any other, in comparison to his earlier style, as in this drawing, which often tallied with the instinctive movement of the eye, vertically from the bottom.
  • Image, 39.0x21.5cm; external, 43.8x27.8cm.
