FAWCETT, Ray

Study drawing; original study drawing in pencil on paper, 1961

Description

Excepting minor spot to paper, bright and clean throughout.

Framed and glazed.

Ray Fawcett (1934-1994) was accomplished in the era of British modernism and contemporary art. As such he developed an abstract style which shared context with contemporaries such as Asger Jorn, Corneille and Ben Nicholson. No part of his picture is more important than any other, in comparison to his earlier style, as in this drawing, which often tallied with the instinctive movement of the eye, vertically from the bottom.

Image, 52.5x37.5cm; external, 63.4x58.2cm.
