BLAKE, Peter
- Portrait of David Hockney in a Hollywood Spanish Interior, 1965.
- Signed, in numbered limited edition offset lithograph.
Description
- An offset lithograph, signed and numbered by Blake, 32/100. Framed and double mounted, the print is from an edition of only 100. Three editions of this work were made, 250, 100 and 50. This is one of the less reproduced of Blake’s works.
- The original work was made as a show of respect for Blake’s friend and contemporary, David Hockney. In return for his portrait of Hockney, which the latter later donated to the Tate, Blake got Hockney's "A Rake's Progress" etchings. Such exchanges, Blake says, are usually a mark of "mutual admiration".
- The print shows some fading, however, still plenty vibrant. Signed to bottom right and numbered to the left, not fully visible under mount. Some water damage along bottom edge, though not reaching the image itself. Custom framed in avant-garde style frame with pop detail.
- Image size, 44.2x34.1cm; externally, 66.4x56.7cm.
