PICASSO, Pablo
- La Paix; stone lithograph, printed at the workshops of Fernand Mourlot, Paris in 1954.
Description
- Fine lithograph in multicolour, to velin paper; first edition of 1954. In near fine condition and without colour loss or fading, with centrefold as issued.
- The production of this edition of La Paix was under the direct supervision of Picasso at Atelier Mourlot. Picasso worked directly on the lithographic stones or transfer papers for this edition. Fernand Mourlot famously noted that Picasso came to the studio "as if he was going to battle," experimenting with complex and unconventional techniques that pushed the limits of the medium.
- The original painting was created during the height of the Korean War. It was Picasso's final monumental call for peace, following his famous anti-war masterpieces Guernica (1937) and Massacre in Korea (1951).
- Framed and glazed; contemporary wooden frame with white finishing.
- Image, 49.5x23.1cm; external, 58.5x37.2cm.
