PICASSO, Pablo

  • Untitled heliogravure of a bull and matador; printed by Atelier Mourlot for Editions Cercle d’Art, Paris in 1961.

Description

  • Fine heliogravure from the collected studies of Toros y Toreros, 1961.
  • Picasso viewed the entire dynamic of the corrida as a profound ritual. To him the dynamic of the matador and the bull was not just combat; it was a powerful metaphor for the eternal human conflict between life and death, intellect and primal force, and even male and female strategies of seduction. The corrida was also the definitive metaphor in his art.
  • In near fine condition, without colour loss or fading.
  • Framed and glazed; sheet mounted over matt black.
  • Sheet, 36.9x26.7cm; external, 40.3x29.9cm.
