- Conceived in 1953, Pichet tête carrée (Square Head Pitcher) captures Pablo Picasso’s masterful ability to transform traditional, utilitarian functional forms into vibrant, modern sculptures. Following his move to the south of France in the post-war era, Picasso became deeply captivated by the expressive possibilities of clay, collaborating closely with Suzanne and Georges Ramié at the renowned pottery workshop in Vallauris.
- In this piece the surface features boldly painted, highly stylized faces, executed in black oxide slip and subtle engobe over a white ground. The lines are simultaneously playful, ancient, and deeply aligned with the principles that defined Picasso’s career.
- Height, 13.5cm.
