Description
 
  • Original ink wash with Indian ink to paper. Signed and dated to bottom right. Excepting minor handling marks to paper, bright and clean and very good throughout.
  • Michael Ayrton (1921-1975) was a British painter, printmaker, and sculptor. His works often focused on Greek mythology. He had actively refused to limit himself to a single artistic label. Preferring to call himself simply an image maker.
  • He was a contemporary of Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland and Lucien Freud. And while they had different stylistic trajectories, Ayrton and Lucien Freud were both part of the same post-war London artistic scene and both painted portraits of their mutual friend, John Minton.
  • Framed and glazed; with acid free mount.
  • Sheet, 26.7x26.9cm; external, 38.3x38.4cm.
