VILADECANS, Joan Pere

  • Adder (2011); fine lithograph, signed and numbered by Viladecans, 25/50.

Description

  • Original stone lithograph in multicolour. Fine condition and without colour loss. Bright and clean throughout. Framed and glazed; mounted over solid black. Minor wear to frame’s extremities, otherwise very good indeed.
  • Joan Pere Viladecans (b. 1948) is one of the most compelling figures to emerge from the great tradition of Catalan modernism — the lineage that gave the world Picasso, Miró, and Tàpies. Self-taught and fiercely original, his work shares with Miró a deeply poetic visual language of symbolic forms and dream-like imagery, where colour and composition transcend literal representation to speak directly to the imagination. Like Tàpies, he treats the picture plane as a site of memory and material meditation, incorporating organic elements — rust, wax, sea water, squid ink — into compositions of striking emotional depth.
  • Image, 34.2x24.1cm; external, 43.3x33.2cm.
