  • From the period of Isherwood’s study of dimension and harmony. Executed in oils on board. Custom framed by Parsonage Studio; crown stamped to verso. Custom mount, elevated over bone black and showing the work in its entirety.
  • James Lawrence Isherwood was an English artist, born in Wigan, in 1917. His subjects and landscape compositions were taken from the Wigan area in a style that became known as 'Wigan style'. Isherwood’s varied much and influences from Pablo Picasso, and earlier, fauve artists, are easily observed in his work.
  • Isherwood was a friend of the artist L. S. Lowry, who purchased his Woman with Black Cat and displayed it at his home.
