Oblong quarto. Original yellow pictorial card wrappers, front cover lettered in blue and red, spine bound with original black wire coil. Illustrated throughout with three-colour comic strips by Jack Dunkley and contemporary trade advertisements.
A very good, structurally sound copy of this fragile post-war manual. The original black wire coil remains uncrushed and securely bound. Some mechanical wear present and is restricted to small splits at the punched holes along a one-inch section at the foot of the spine, with the card covers remaining entirely attached. The wrappers present well, showing light corner creasing and a localized, faint surface soil mark to the right side of the upper panel. Internally, the pages are notably bright and clean, and free from the foxing, kitchen thumbprints, or tears common to surviving examples.
First edition. Published by the Daily Mirror newspaper during the era of post-war British food rationing, this landscape manual uses a sequential comic-strip format to deliver accessible culinary instruction. The narrative follows an ex-Auxiliary Territorial Service (A.T.S.) private navigating contemporary resource shortages.
A remarkably well-preserved example of twentieth-century British culinary ephemera, which rarely survives intact due to its practical kitchen application.
