MATISSE, Henri

  • Untitled lithograph of a woman in armchair; printed at the workshops of Daniel Jacomet, Paris in 1925.

Description

  • Fine lithograph in black and white, printed on Lafuma vellum paper. Excellent throughout and remains unfaded.

  • The Jacomet lithographs were a masterclass of 20th century printing. Daniel Jacomet used a highly specialised, proprietary stencil and lithographic technique. His process was so precise that it perfectly captured the varying pressures, smudges, and delicate line weights of Matisse’s charcoal and ink drawings.

  • This suite was limited to an edition run of a thousand and was a personal association copy gifted and inscribed by Waldemar George to Henriette Pascar, who was an acquaintance of Henri Matisse. Pascar was a prominent theatre director and avant-garde actress, considered a peer in the performing arts, who shared a mutual respect with the modern painters.

  • Framed and glazed; contemporary wooden frame, with acid free mount. Glazed with UV resistant art glass.

  • Sheet, 25.9x20.8cm; external, 44.9x35.4cm.
