Henri Matisse, Portrait of Marguerite Maeght, fine heliogravure print, in contemporary wooden frame, with white mount

MATISSE, Henri

  • Portrait of Marguerite Maeght; fine heliogravure, printed for Derrière le Miroir, Paris in 1982.

Description

  • Fine heliogravure from the prestigious French suite, commemorative of Aime Maeght, the founder of Derrière le Miroir. It served as a massive, final tribute to the legendary gallery owner Aimé Maeght, who had passed away in late 1981, and his wife Marguerite. Because Matisse died in 1954, the publication of his artwork alongside surviving contemporaries served as a profound historical anchor, honouring the deep, lifelong friendship and early creative collaboration that helped launch Galerie Maeght right after World War II.

  • Framed and glazed, contemporary wooden frame with acid free mount. Minor bumping to frame's extremities otherwise excellent.Image 37.8x26.9cm; external, 46.0x35.3cm.
