MATISSE, Henri
- Goldfish (1911); featured on original poster for the exchange exhibitions between the Soviet Union and the United States in 1986.
Description
- The poster is backed onto board and is framed and glazed. Remains vibrant and with only very minimal loss of colour. Excepting small scuffing to the bottom right quadrant, the condition is very good indeed.
- Bearing the correct coding, 02-02367-9AA, to bottom right corner.
- The exhibitions were held at Los Angeles Country Museum of Art and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
- The exchange exhibitions were a landmark event. And the exhibition of the Soviet-owned French paintings was especially memorable because of the quality of the paintings and the timing of their showing at such a critical period in the history of the U.S.-U.S.S.R. relations. The works in the exhibition were among the greatest masterpieces, by artists who included Cezanne, Gauguin, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, Renoir and Van Gogh.
- Image, 101.6x58.9cm; external, 108.3x65.3cm.
