Description
The collotype is in near fine condition. Without colour loss or spotting to the paper. An excellent impression. Published in Paris, 1946. Framed and glazed; housed inside of a handmade French wooden frame.
Included is an envelope inscribed by Matisse in black fountain pen. Inscribed by him to verso, with a return address. The envelope is addressed: La Nourriture Terretres, 129 Boulevard du Montparnasse, Paris. This neighbours Matisse's old apartment and studio at 132.
Les Nourritures Terrestres, likely was a cafe or restaurant. During and after WWII many such establishments became forwarding posts for incoming Mail.
Sent from Nice, southern France, where in 1949 Matisse had not long since relocated and set up studio in the Hotel Regina.
