MATISSE, Henri
Jeune fille II; fine heliogravure, published by E. Teriade for Verve, Paris in 1937.
Description
Fine heliogravure in black and white. The line drawing for this was created by Henri Matisse specifically for the inaugural issue of Verve (Vol. 1, No. 1, December 1937).
What is special about the Verve heliogravures is the exquisite printing process. An image is chemically etched onto a copper plate. Unlike standard, flat industrial printing, it requires thick, high-quality paper that literally draws ink out from the deep recesses of the plate.
Near fine condition, with only minor toning to paper, otherwise excellent throughout.
Framed and glazed, contemporary frame.
Image, 35.5x25.9cm; external, 40.1x31.2cm.
