This collotype is tied to an immense mid-century art world rivalry. Printed by Albert Skira, the legendary publisher who used to work closely with Teriade. The two had an intense falling out over creative control years prior. Throughout the late 1940s both publishers aggressively competed for Matisse's exclusive attention, resulting in a golden age of printmaking where Matisse gave Skira the rights to his Ronsard illustrations.
