BRAQUE, Georges
- The Portuguese; fine collotype. Published by the renowned Albert Skira, Paris, in 1946.
Description
- The Skira suites were renowned for their fine scholarship and high quality lithography.
- In excellent condition, without fading or colour loss.
- The original painting depicts a Portuguese musician playing a guitar at a bar. His form is completely fractured into shimmering, transparent geometric planes, and yet retains its essence.
- The Portuguese is famously monochromatic, relying on a narrow palette of browns, greys, and olive tones. In standard mid-century printing, such similar shades easily bled into a flat, dark smudge. Skira’s meticulous presswork isolated the delicate, individual layers of transparent tone, ensuring that the collotypes retained the luminosity of the original work.
- Framed and glazed; ultra modern composite frame.
- Image, 25.3x20.7cm; external, 43.4x33.2cm.
