RAKOCZI, Basil Ivan
- Still life with flowers, 1957; original work in watercolours and Indian ink.
Description
- Rakoczi's still lifes were rarely painted realistically; instead, they are flattened, angled, and layered to reveal their forms from multiple viewpoints, drawing on the compositional ideas of Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso.
- Rakoczi originals are uncommon and on the whole are now in private and museum collections. He was an eclectic, subjective artist, interested in the psychology of myths, magic and folklore. His interest led him to contribute to publications on these topics. He founded the Society for Creative Psychology and was a member of the Gypsy Lore Society and Folk Lore Society. His work then was driven by the dual passions for art and psychology.
- Framed, mounted and glazed. Hardwood frame, with hand polished black finish.
- Sheet, 62.9x52.2cm; external, 77.0x64.0cm.
