BERRY, Arthur
- Moorland landscape, 1990; signed and dated by Arthur Berry.
Description
- Mixed media composition, in pastel and gouache. The work’s vanishing skyline depicts an ambiguous balance of North Staffordshire’s industry with its nature, for which Berry is so well known. Thus an important piece of a period in the development of Arthur Berry’s ideas.
- The piece has another, incomplete, work of Berry’s to the verso of the one chosen for framing. It is unsigned but inscribed by him. The turning over of the paper or card on which he worked and starting again was somewhat characteristic of Berry.
- Previously exhibited and sold in Berry’s home town of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
- External dimensions, 55x52cm.
