- Original composition executed in pastel on heavy stock paper; in very good condition, without loss of colour, paper remaining undamaged.
- An important piece from a period in the maturity of Arthur Berry’s (1925–1994) ideas and style. The work was originally acquired by a student of North Staffordshire Polytechnic, where Arthur Berry had been employed as a full-time lecturer since 1963.
His decades at the Polytechnic coincided with the broadening of his artistic identity. While maintaining his teaching schedule, he integrated himself into the local community, spending evenings observing the local culture in the public houses of Burslem.
The work’s vanishing skyline gives an ambiguous balance of North Staffordshire’s industry with its nature, for which Berry is so well known.
Framed and glazed; contemporary black composite gallery frame with original mount, retaining its original wash, applied by hand, most likely by Berry himself.
